The Next Tween Star: Benn C.

Move over Mitchel Musso and Drake Bell. Let me introduce y'all to Benn C. He is a skateboarding, bicycling, drumming, guitar playing, talented tween named Benn who knows how to pose! I can totally see him on any Nickelodeon or Disney show in the near future. Just remember when he gets famous that you saw him here first!

When I met Benn he had it all planned out - from what he would wear down to what he was going to do. He is very outgoing, energetic, and loves his Momma. She makes an appearance in a couple of shots as well. Well, I think I pretty much captured his personality in these pictures. Oh and I can't forget to mention how goofy he can be too ;-) You will see that side of him as well. Ok enough talking... Let the photographs speak for themselves.

I love this family dearly! Camery and I have been great friends for several years now and it always brings me joy to photograph her beautiful family. This past Christmas they were down visiting family, and so of course we had to squeeze in a photoshoot! For this blog post we will start out with Mom & Dad, then the girls, the boys, and then we will end it with sweet Canon. I can't look at these pictures without a big smile on my face! I'm so happy for this family when I think about their newest addition, a chocolate lab assistant dog and best friend to their son. Hopefully one day I will get the chance to photograph her as well.

Yes, you have seen her face before. Every year when Pam comes down to Texas to visit, I do a photoshoot of her. It's always a blast! So this time Morgan and I wanted to join in on the fun and get in front of the camera with her. You'll see those later.
Let me begin by telling you a little bit about Pam...she is very funny, feisty, creative, thoughtful, a great listener, AND she is a STAR! See for yourself.

Shooting with a tripod is always fun. You set the camera, then run as fast as you can, then pose.

I love this shot! I always say, "The best way to end a shoot is by jumping!"

My Son's Japan Mission Trip

Remember when I did the fundraiser for my son's mission trip to Japan? If not you can read about it here. Well with the help of some beautiful families that signed up for a mini session, my son went to Japan! With his schooling at YWAM he got closer to God and learned SO much that has changed him for the rest of his life. He is wanting to attend the next school there called School Of Evangelism (SOE) which begins in January. He is in the process of raising support and asking for prayer during this time. I am AMAZED at what God can do!

Here is a little slideshow Gaige and I put together from a collaboration of images taken by himself and his team.
They traveled to Japan to bring hope to the people who needed to hear the Gospel and to serve those affected by disaster. They did tsunami relief, street evangelism, and performed in schools. So grab your kleenex and sit back and let me take you to Japan. Be prepared to tear up and cry if you need too. I know I do every time. And I've seen it about 100 times! God is so good!

Please join me in prayer that my son will get to go to this next school. Thank you ALL so much!

Taylor {Senior Class of 2012}

Oh boy I could not wait to post this senior session! Taylor is my very first senior girl to photograph! When her mom called to set up a session I was beyond excited!

As you know there is a lot of planning that goes on for a photo shoot: locations, clothes, hair & makeup, accessories. It's all gotta be planned. Here is a little bit about our evening. We picked a couple of spots for the shoot but it was right around Halloween so one location that we chose was blocked off for trick or treating. I had just pulled over into an area so that we could regroup and decide where to go next when I looked around and happened to stumble upon the most beautiful location! To some people it would be "just an alley" but to me it was a gold mine! All kinds of ideas were flowing through my mind! I just loved how Taylor was all for it and didn't mind sitting on whatever I told her, even on an abandon school desk! Gasp! Which was another gold mine. She was such a joy to photograph! Well I told you all that just to show that even the unplanned things can turn out to be fabulous!

This is Taylor. As you can see she is gorgeous! She is also very smart, a varsity cheerleader, and in dance. She loves all things Hello Kitty, which she sports all over her Mini Cooper. She also has a boy friend that joined us for a couple of shots at the end of the session.

Taylor it was so great meeting you and your mom! What a fun time we had during your shoot!

Baker Fall Family Shoot

I love this family dearly! Every year, and sometimes in-between I will photograph one, two, or all three of the Bakers. Baby Caris is such a HAM! She loved the camera and was having such a good time! It only took me till the very end to bribe her with a blow pop. =D I wish you could see all of the pictures but I will show you my most favorites.

I love these shots! They kissed, then laughed, then kissed...

and then laughed again.

And to end this post I will tell you that Caris loves to sing! When we were all finished and driving home she started singing a song that she just happened to make up. It goes, "I was goin' picture takin', I was goin' picture takin'." It is now my favorite song! :^)

Adoption Day!

As promised I'm posting pics of my family's Adoption Day. If you haven't read the beautiful story of how this family came about, check it out here. We shall start from the youngest to the oldest.

This is my sweet & sassy niece. She will make you melt like a piece of chocolate.

All I can say about my nephew is "Look at those eyes!!!" I mean really! They're like marbles!

Cindy & Tri {wedding}

When my friend, Christa asked me if I'd like to be her second shooter at in upcoming wedding I said, YEAH I'd love to! I haven't seen her in a couple of years and thought it would love to work with her! When time got closer to the wedding date we were exchanging emails back and forth with all the details. I about fell over when she told me the wedding was taking place at my childhood church. It was so bazarro to go back to St. Pius X since I haven't been to mass there in over 24 years! Everything looked the same except they took out the red carpet. But it was like I was a little girl again as I walked into that beautiful church and saw the statue of Jesus on the cross, the elegant detailed stained glass, and all the pews. Ok enough about that, let's get on with the wedding photos.
This is the wedding of Cindy & Tri. What a super sweet couple they are! And oh so much in love! You could see it in their faces! I am privileged to take part in capturing their special day!

Thank you Tri, Cindy and family for treating me as if I was family! Also, I want to thank Christa for choosing me to be your back up! I'd do it for you anytime!

The Kent Family has expanded

I have been waiting to post these photographs for 8 months now! You don't even know how hard that was for me. You are probably wondering why I didn't post them, well the law told me I couldn't. :/ So I had to obey and wait patiently till it was time. Sigh. BUT now that the adoption has been finalized I am allowed to put these absolutely gorgeous, squishy, faces online. The Kent family might look familiar to you, well the boy in the middle anyway. He's my nephew and you might have seen him around the blog. Well let me tell you a little bit about their story on how the newest additions became family.

Here is the really short version. Ha! Back in December 2010, I remember my sister-in-law telling me about these three siblings that have been in foster care. God worked it out and they became foster parents and took these three beautiful treasures into their home. When we went over there to meet these children I about melted! I LOVED them so much when only knowing them for a few minutes.
Hmm this is supposed to be the short version, I can never tell the short version. So I'll try again. (takes a deep breath) My sister-in-law and her husband told the courts they wanted to adopt all three of them. It took some time and heartache but like I said above, God worked it all out and they are now officially their own children! Praise His Holy Name! Until they were officially adopted no mention of them were to be online. So now you have a short story to go with these beautiful faces. Take a look at what God brought together and you will be able to see how hard it was to keep these to myself.

With three boys around the house, having a sweet little girl is like heaven.

Dad brought along some mustashes for the boys. This is the way things are at the Kent house, always goofing around.

Well I hope you enjoyed getting to meet the newest additions to our family. But stay tuned because I have yet to blog the "Adoption Day" pictures.

I can't believe that Nok has getting so big! Last weekend I did a little mini shoot of him and couldn't believe how grown up he looks. Not only is he handsome but so mature looking! You might recognize him from the post I did of him earlier this year by clicking here.

I love this family and was excited to photograph the whole heart of my friend, Kelly.

Because every girl needs a kissy picture with her husband!

I really put my daughter to work on this shoot. She assists me on many shoots carrying my bag, a chair, or whatever I need her to do. But this time she was also a baby sitter. I wanted to get some shots of just Kelly and her hubby so I asked her to watch the kids. It was going so well and when I looked up from the view finder, I saw my daughter chasing after the Turk's 2 year old while holding their baby. It was a site to be seen! She is the best assistant. ever! If it wasn't for her I couldn't have captured these lovey shots.

Pat is a friend of a friend. She contacted me when she heard about my fundraising mini sessions. The more I talked to her the more I felt like we've been friends for years! I know... so weird. So what can I tell you about Pat? Well she is a beautiful woman with a heart of God! She and her husband adopted all 5 of their children out of foster care! Yeah, see what I mean? I LOVE adoption! It's a beautiful thing! My little nephew was adopted from Thailand and I really can not see our family without him. Ok yall ready to see my favorites and to meet this family?! Internet, meet my momma. Last week I did a mini shoot of my sweet, happy momma. While I was editing her pictures I had Neil Diamond playing to get me into the groove. She LOVES him! All my life I would hear his music being played throughout the house while my mom would dance around. Neil was and still is my mom's celebrity crush. He made her so happy. I love seeing her happy and full of life that's why it's no surprise I chose these as my favorites.

A Rocker Photography Fundraiser: Japan Mission Trip

Back in June my son arrived at Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Tyler to attend the Discipleship Training School. In his school he is learning about hearing God's voice, the importance of prayer, the truth about God's character and living a life of surrender and obedience. He and his classmates hope to take these truths and share them with others, a relevant Gospel in a very real setting. God impressed on their hearts the needs in Japan. On October 6th, his team will travel to Japan to bring hope to the people who need to hear the Gospel and to serve those affected by disaster. I am offering a marathon of mini photoshoots to raise support for this exciting missionary journey. Wouldn't you like to get some updated pictures for the holidays and at the same time know that you are helping a missionary share Jesus to the people of Japan? Well it's possible! Two weeks left of Homeschooling for 13 years. It seems like it has passed by so quickly. I remember like it was yesterday teaching my son how to write his name..and here we are taking his Senior pictures. :'( WOW! I'm tearing up just writing this!

As with any senior session I wanted to capture who he really is. His personality, smiles, interests, anything that means anything to him. I think we got just that in this session. So just sit back and let me introduce you to my handsome, incredibly energetic, funny, goofy, creative son, who has a heart for God.

For his "Multiple Me" he asked me if I could do something like on the cover of the Linkin Park "minutes to midnight" album. I said, "oooh yes!" So this is the album cover we got our inspiration from.

The faces of a 10 year old.

This little man is my nephew. What joy he brings to our family. He is such a ball of energy, very animated, and loves to sing to the Lord! I can not listen to the song, "How He Loves" {by David Crowder Band} without thinking of my nephew. One night, while he was getting ready for bed, he was in his room singing at the top of his lungs to that song. What a sweet sound. It touched my heart. And I know it had to make God smile! "Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts." -1 Chronicles 16:9

His dad, full of gags, thought it would be fun to break out a mustache! I laughed so much while editing these. He looks so mischievous.

Baby legs

I love photographing children! But when it comes to toddlers, can I just say it's a challenge! They do not want to be told to sit, smile, look at the camera, or say cheese. They want to do their own thing and have snacks. :) Precious things. I had a lot of tricks up my sleeve, some worked, but I figured the best way to go about it was to watch them play and shoot like crazy.

This past weekend I had the privilege of photographing 2 toddlers, a 5 year old, and a 10 year old. So let's just say my weekend was filled and I'm warn out!

Since I'm trying to keep my blog updated, I will show you this shot of a baby girl that is SUCH a chunk of love!

Hi everyone! As you can see I have been neglecting the blog so I thought I would update it today! So here it goes...Like the title says, this is me behind my lens.

We all know that my daughter is my muse. Whenever I get a new idea I tell her about it and she excitedly says "Let's do a photo shoot!" She is always ready to be my model. LOVE HER! But this time was different. This time *I* was the model and *she* was the photographer. Being my daughter, and seeing how much photography is apart of my life, she developed an interest in it too. Always willing to teach, I thought it was time for a photography lesson. :D

We had so much fun! It was a windy, December day and when you shoot outside you gotta work with what God has given you.

When we got home I uploaded the images and saw a few that she captured that I wasn't aware of. (below) First I was like, "WOW she did so good!" And then I was like, "Is that me?" It was like when you hear your voice on a recording for the first time and think, "That's my voice?" But this was in a good way. =) I know I have said this before but even more so now that I was the model, I think everybody should get a photo shoot of just themselves so they can really see that they are "fearfully and wonderfully made" -Psalm 139:14. It's such a confidence booster!

All the images were edited by me but were approved by her so that she could take part in the editing process. :)
I want to thank my talented daughter for taking these beautiful pictures of me. <3

Last week I had to privilege of photographing one of my favorite families. The head of this family is Momma Dobbs. This dear woman was the praying force behind me in my teenage years. Every time her daughter and I would walk out the door to go out she would pray for protection over us. She is a prayer warrior! Thank you so much for being apart of my life, you are a beautiful woman inside and out!

I love black & white portraits! Don't get me wrong, I totally love color but sometimes an image looks best in B&W. I really can't explain why but somehow it draws you in and just speaks for itself. When editing this shot I knew it would look awesome if I stripped all the gorgeous fall colors off of it. I am very pleased with the results and I feel it made the portrait stronger.

This past week my fur baby celebrated his 8th birthday! It has been a great week for him! He got lots of attention, new toys, and new all natural dog food! Oh and I can't forget his Facebook page! Yes, you heard right...Mack the Silky Terrier, has a Facebook page! People out there want to know what he does daily!! =D

As we were approaching Mack's big day, I was shopping for him at Petsmart. The lady that was assisting me said that Mack is considered a senior dog now. o_O WHAT? I couldn't believe it! But when I thought about it a little bit more it did explain his moodiness. For example, I would be in my room chillaxin' watching HGTV, Mack would lay at my feet and one of the kids would walk by our room. Mack would growl a possessive growl. He wouldn't have done that in his younger years. AND it explains his constant freaking out when a thunderstorm is rolling into town. Well we are working on those issues but other then that Mack has been such a joy to our family!

Just like any of my children's birthday, I would get out my camera and take pictures for memories. Here are my favorites from Mack's little photoshoot.

The caption for this picture should say, "I work for carrots." That's his favorite food of course and the word I used to get this response.

What a blast we had with this photoshoot! I fell in love with this spaceship the first time I saw it! I knew I must shoot there. Thank you Alec & Morgan for being my awesome models!

It's been awhile since I've updated my blog so I thought I would share a picture of my beautiful english rose bush called, "Golden Celebration". Oh I wish you could smell them. They are very fragrant with a sweet honey sent. I could smell them all day! My mother-in-law would tell you they are too smelly. She doesn't care for strong scented roses...but I do! I think the smellier the better! =)

Senior Session (Pt. 2)

Here is the second half of this Senior Session. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet.

Let me tell you a little about this senior. He was voted "Most Witty" by his class three years in a row! You can see why in these pictures! He held nothing back. Like when I would photograph a toddler, I had to be quick and keep my finger on the trigger. I never knew what he was going to do next. So he basically played and I shot. He was so fun to shoot and had many facial expressions! And I can tell you that I did get some serious ones out of him.

Oh and remember girls he does have a girlfriend. ;^)

Oh did I mention that he likes to draw too? Well that is his creation in the background. Fun!

Senior Session (Pt. 1)

WOW I am so excited to introduce High school Senior Sessions onto the blog! As with all my portraits I want to showcase the REAL you, capture your personality, and show everyone your beauty. I do believe that I achieved that with these two seniors. They were SO fun to work with! And can I just say how gorgeous they are?! This senior shoot is like no other!
If you haven't seen their sneak peek then check that out here. OH one more thing... This truck is a 52 Chevy and was built from the ground up by this young man, starting when he was 14 years old. A*MAZING! I couldn't get over how beautiful it is and could not wait to photograph it. So here is our handsome high school senior with his, could be America's Next Top Model, girlfriend.

Meet Dozer

What a good dog he is! Dozer is a little watchdog and protector of his grandmother. But I have to say he was a bit nervous getting his picture taken. If I was his size, I'm sure I would be uncomfortable too having a honkin' camera in my face.

Dozer is a beautiful chihuahua and I just love his cute, little curly tail!

We had a good time and since he was such a good model he got a treat afterward.

Those are the words I thought of when I first saw my beautiful niece that evening. I could not wait to take her pictures! To give us enough time we scheduled this shoot an hour before her dance recital. When we got there it was sprinkling. :/ And, well since I am a natural light photographer I have to work with the weather. There was no way I was going reschedule this! I had to think fast. So what did we do? We worked with the sprinkles of course! I think this was the fastest photoshoot I had ever done!

Before, when I would ask to see her dance moves she would be too shy to show me. But I thought maybe I would get to see some during this shoot. So I asked her again. This is what I got.

Not sure if that was part of her dance but she knows how to pose.

I could not resist this shot! Loved her hair!

What a performer! I don't think she complained one bit about getting *a little* rained on.

I am finally getting a chance to put the images up from J's photoshoot. I had so many great shot's from his shoot that I had to really narrow it down for the blog. Two weeks ago I did a mini photoshoot with baby "C". If you don't remember her check out these pictures I shot of her when she was 3 days old.
She was so sweet to let me get a few shots of her before her first birthday. She did a great job sitting still and exploring the grass and leaves...until she spotted her momma. That is when I got this shot and then we were done.

These are the shots I got before that one. Look at all her expressions! She's so model*y

Before the shoot was complete I had to get one with her and her beautiful Momma!

And there is always time to take mom's picture too!

1920's Vintage Shoot

Wow it's been forever since I updated the blog. Well now that summer is officially over and autumn is around the corner there will be more opportunities to shoot outside, which would mean more updates to the blog. I am so ready for the cooler weather!

Last week we did a photoshoot that was absolutely fun! I call this a 1920's vintage shoot. I was so giddy and excited while editing these pictures that I couldn't wait to put them on here. Miss M is so goofy and is a natural in front of the camera! Ok I'll stop talking and let you look at my favorites from the shoot.

Hello!
Wow it's been a long time since I posted some pictures on my blog!
Well I have been very busy trying to finish up the school year and we went on vacation to Sea World! Now that is an amazing place! I recommend that everyone go there if you can. It is AWESOME!

Anyway, since Spring my garden has been growing and I had to capture it's beauty! There will be two parts to this post since there are so many pictures.

Portrait of Mack

Mack needed a portrait session of his own, poor thing. This month hasn't been a good one for him. We've been in and out of the vet's office trying to figure out why he is limping.
While sitting there at the vet's office, people watching, dog watching, I noticed that all the pets that were waiting had cute little names like "Fluffy" and "Sprinkles". And here we are with a human named Silky called Mack. Well after all, we did name him after Mac Powell from Third Day! ha! Anyway it was something I noticed.

Here is my cute, little, fur baby, Mack with some details that I love about him: his little tail, laying the way all terriers lay, and then capturing his "stand pretty" pose.

Last week I visited baby Caris and we had some fun taking pictures! She is four months old now and is super happy! It seems like yesterday when I took these shots of her as a newborn.

Today I wanted to make a post about my dear friend, Camery Pollard. This woman is super talented in everything she does. God has truely gifted her. Camery's passion is creating art on walls and turning them into beautiful murals that will last for years. Check out her work on her super cute website at www.cjpmurals.com . Warning: you will be there for a long time because there is a lot to look at. My kids rooms are on there too and their murals have grown with them over the years. So if you live in Kitsap County, Washington and are wanting a unique mural for your home, check her website out.

Back in 2007 I went to Washington to shoot their family portraits. There are so many good ones but I had to narrow it down to my most favorites. Oh and I have to say that Washington's beaches are so beautiful!

In this first shot they ordered a big standout print that is mounted on their wall in their home. It looks awesome!

This is Daisy, their fur baby. She's in her favorite spot in the house, right under the kitchen table.

I so love these pictures that I caught of their daughter practicing at the piano. When I was taking pictures here and there I heard her playing so I *had* to capture how beautiful the moment was.

I love reading but I mostly read fiction books with the occasional biography here and there. A friend at my book club had just finished this book and said we must read it. I picked it up at the library and couldn't put it down. One night I was up till 3am reading it! This story is incredible! It is sad but also an inspiring one. Even as I type I'm tearing up. I would recommend this book to everyone!
It's a biography of 'A Modern-Day Slave, an International Art Dealer, and the Unlikely Woman Who Bound Them Together'. It's their story of how God changed their lives. Go check out their website www.samekindofdifferentasme.com

What's cool is they live right around here in Dallas, Texas! I just went to their website and found out that Ron & Denver have taken thier story on the road. That would be cool if they went to my church!

After reading the book go look at the photos on their website! It is awesome to actually see the places and people that are mentioned in the book. I *love* photographs! Oh and yes, they also made me tear up. Then I watched the video on their site and I cried even more.

Before I tell you about Roxy I want to say that I have been thinking that I wanted to do another doggie photoshoot. Well the weirdest thing happened the other day.
We were doing school at the kitchen table and this schnauzer comes into our backyard and starts to check it out. We were all perplexed until I see our gate open. Then the awwws came and "how cute". Mack was freaking out because someone else was in his domain.
I went out and saw that she had tags. I contacted the owner but they never responded. So I thought I should take some pictures in case we made a "Found Dog" sign.
Roxy was a very sweet doggie! And I know the owners would be devastated to have lost her. Here is her mini photoshoot.

I do think she was afraid of my camera.

A few hours later Roxy went home and her owners were most greatful.

I am Second

Well last night the 8th season of American Idol kicked off. But before we see the new "cast" and pick our favorites I want to talk about last season's Jason Castro.
He is a celebrity here in our little town because he lives one town over from us.
While he was on American Idol I could see that he stayed true to himself and didn't let being on the biggest TV show change who he really is and what he stands for.

I came across this website www.iamsecond.com while on another blog and thought it was AWESOME to see all these celebrities saying they are second.

Another celebrity that I clicked on was Brian Welch from the band Korn. I had read his autobiography about how Christ changed his life. I think that is amazing! He sums it up in his testimony on this site. What he doesn't say in that interview but does in the book is that he had zero tattoos before he gave his life to Christ. You gotta love a Christian tat!

Anyway go check the website out but I have to warn you it's hard to watch without tearing up.

This past weekend I did a photoshoot of my vivacious sister-in-law. For the past three years she has been my first photoshoot of the year. So here she is kicking off 2009.

These were fun to get artsy with. This one is a little vintage looking.

And this one looks like an oil painting! Or is that watercolor? Well anyway I love it.

Today I was walking in my yard and noticed my Nandina's. I thought to myself, "Wow look at those berries! I have to take a picture of them."
Nandina's are a type of shrub that is drought tolerant and has lots of varieties. I love how the leaves change from green to red and grow lots and lots of berries!

Belinda's Dream

Last night while I was washing my dishes I glanced out the window and saw my rose bush had two huge gorgeous blooms on it! I had to stop what I was doing and go check it out. After looking at them I praised God for His wonderful creation then went into the house to grab my camera so I can capture the moment.
This is the reason why I planted rose bushes out of my kitchen window so I could look at something beautiful while I was working.
This is a reminder to me that I can get so caught up in life that I forget to get out and smell the roses. Life grows on around me. Here it is in November and this rose bush is still blooming and I haven't even taken much care of it. I am so thankful for the little reminders that God put so much thought into His creation. It amazes me.

I just looked up these verses in Isaiah 35:1-3.
This is verse 2
"It will burst into bloom;
it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
b)They will see the glory of the LORD,
the splendor of our God."

Isn't that profound?!

Three Days Old

My best friend and her husband had their first child last week. I am so excited for them both. God has blessed them with a beautiful baby girl.

I will be doing a photoshoot of Caris in the future but I wanted to capture her while she was still new.
